1994 Buick Roadmaster - won't shift out of park?

Postby howell » Sun Apr 10, 2011 1:38 pm

It started a few days ago, took a few tries each time, but would come out. Now it won't. No issues driving once it comes out of park though, transmission fluid is perfect, etc...

I've had that happen and kept fiddling until it worked. Try parking it on a level surface and NOT locking the steering wheel when the key is removed. But here's what some other people say:

There is a switch that locks the transmission linkage in place until you step on the brake pedal. Either the switch is bad, or it is not getting the signal from the brake light switch. Not too expensive to fix.

could be Transmission Modulator 12.00-15.00part.......

Before electronic controls an automatic transmission would shift based on how much vacuum the engine is pulling by way of the vacuum modulator.
