How to fix a mileage gauge?

Postby grant » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:46 am

I had a 2001 Buick century with an instrument cluster that had an inoperatve odometer, PRNDL display. The lights behind it won't work. We went to a local mechanic and he said we would need to replace the entire dash cluster, which would cost us about 250$. He has tried to get more money out of us before, so we don't know if he is telling the truth. Is he right, or is there a cheaper way to fix it?

Behind the cluster is a big circuit board, Everythings tied together. Call a wreckers and see if they have a cluster and how much. They arent usually that difficult to change (usually!, some are horrible). But yes the best option is to replace the whole thing.

Yes it would need to be replaced. Could be that the whole board is fried.
